Celine was founded by Céline Vipiana in 1945 as a children’s shoe boutique and a decade later was used as a launch pad to branch out into ready-to-wear with the goal to deliver fashion to the everyday woman. Michael Kors succeeded Vipiana in 1997 following her death before leaving to start his namesake brand. Phoebe Philo was appointed as head in 2008 and remained at Celine for a decade. Philo produced clothing that women aspired to wear, she sent empowering messages though fashion and launched a range of now iconic bags.
